The scene is set in late 1980s in the small town of Zavodsk. Lesya is a beautiful, gifted but ill-tempered woman, and after her parents died, she was raised by her elder sister Katya. For Lesya’s sake, Katya abandoned her dream of becoming an actress and worked like a dog to give Lesya everything she needed. Shortly after Lesya finishes school, she receives a proposal from an admirer who was madly in love with her and which she accepts.
